Since Organic cultivation has always been the traditional practice in the region and these same farmers are now the shareholders in DevBhumi and Over 6000 households participate in DevBhumi economic activities. Of these more than 4000 are shareholders in the Company and the vast majority of these are women. These producers live in remote mountain villages in the upper Himalayas of Garhwal, Uttrakhand. They are spinners of yarns, weavers of fine fabrics, beekeepers/organic honey harvesters, and organic spice cultivators. These Villagers are active in income generating activities that are parallel in conserving the forest and its habitants which they deeply respect and value, They have progressed from subsistence cultivation to income earning activities, market connectivity, and access to modern technologies and techniques. This is all accomplished in a sustainable manner, promoting the region’s unique environment and biodiversity and compatibility with mountain specificities.
The region is also the home of the holy shrines of Shri Kedar Nath, Tungnath and Madhmaheswar, making the region one of the most unique and beautiful places on Earth. ‘
